The ESP-WROOM-32 is a versatile Wi-Fi+BT+BLE MCU module, offering powerful functionality for diverse applications. It is suitable for low-power sensor networks and demanding tasks such as voice encoding, audio streaming, and MP3 decoding.
At the core of this module lies the ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip*, featuring scalable and adaptive characteristics. Its two CPU cores can be individually controlled or powered. The clock frequency is adjustable between 80 MHz and 240 MHz. Users may deactivate the CPU power supply, utilising the low-power coprocessor to continuously monitor peripheral status changes or whether certain analogue values exceed thresholds. The ESP32 further integrates a rich array of peripherals, including capacitive touch sensors, Hall sensors, low-noise sensor amplifiers, SD card interfaces, Ethernet interfaces, high-speed SDIO/SPI, UART, I2S, and I2C.
CPU and Memory
The ESP32-D0WDQ6 incorporates two low-power Xtensa® 32-bit LX6 MCUs. On-chip storage comprises:
• 448 KB of ROM for programme boot and kernel function calls.
• 520 KB of on-chip SRAM for data and instruction storage.
• 8 KB of SRAM within the RTC, designated as RTC slow memory, accessible by the coprocessor during Deep-sleep mode.
• 8 KB of SRAM within the RTC, designated as RTC fast memory, utilised for data storage during RTC wake-up from Deep-sleep mode and accessible by the main CPU.
• 1 kbit eFuse, with 256 bits reserved for system use (MAC address and chip configuration); the remaining 768 bits are allocated for user applications, including Flash encryption and chip identification.
• The ESP-WROOM-32 integrates 4 MB of SPIFlash.
